Catching Up

Don't Be A Hero

I spent my Sunday afternoon catching up with the work I have to do outside of my day job. The image you see above is a part of a Lazy Susan composite for that commercial I’ve had on the fryer for at least two weeks. I’ve been trying to find the time to finish this, and I think I’m getting close to having a cut that’s almost good enough to show. Part of the problem with this project was that we only shot wide shots. If we had a few more close ups I’d be much happier. Facial expression is a large part of modern movies. However, David Bordwell encourages more body acting alongside the face. I want a balance between the two, especially when working on a commercial that will likely be viewed at a rather small frame size.

In any case, I also brought my camera with me last weekend to get some golden hour, birds, and even some slow motion of hummingbirds. It was a wonderful time. I also saw my cousin who is trying to get into the recording business. I wish him my best. Well, I better get going.

New Cars and Death Star Phones

AT&T Death Star

I saw a wallpaper made for the iPhone that I thought was goofy. So, I threw together a larger one for wide screen laptops. I hope Apple bring the touchscreen stuff to their laptops next. That would be a bold and interesting move for them. I really wish I had money to get a new Apple laptop. I’m looking at the money that I currently have and debating as to what I will purchase and what will take precedence. Let’s just say I’m planning a little trip when I graduate. Obviously, microphones take precedence over everything else because I don’t have anything worth using yet. Then, I’m debating about purchasing a 35mm adapter. It’s a series of tough choices. I hope I make the right ones.

The new Camaro concept looked beautiful in Transformers. Apparently, the car is scheduled to come back to stores in 2009. They have a beautiful website up for it. The site is definitely worth seeing because it has some really nice wallpaper that is easy on the eyes. I want to test drive the convertible as soon as that sucker is out in the store. Mmm Mmm!

New Commercial

Don't Be A Hero Commercial

I and a group of film making friends are putting together a commercial for a local businessman. I should have a cut ready by the end of this weekend for us all to crit and make suggestions. As an update to all that I’m doing this summer, I’ve gotten a job writing web tools for farmers to audit their farms and find out how to both save money and be more energy efficient. I’ve also bought an expensive digital film camera for my film making needs. I’m producing stuff in HD. It’s rather exciting because I’ve already done a lot of stuff with it, and have many more plans before the summer is over.
